The coast at Cape Kaliakra is of cliff type, the cliffs descend about 70 metres down to the sea. In their foot, the surf has hollowed caves, recesses, cavities and arches, which are accessible only from the sea. The cape features a museum, a restaurant, a lighthouse, a meteorological station and a chapel. Cape Kaliakra is one of the first protected territories in Bulgaria, and was declared a natural reserve in 1941.
